Heading West through a beautiful landscape of small waterways with a protected area for birds. You should see some stork nests and beavers. Lunch in front of the fortress of Brouage and some oyster farms. Visit by horse of Brouage, which was founded 1555 as a commercial place for salt trade and the fortress was built in the XVIIth century by Richelieu, minister of “roi soleil”, Louis XIV, who fought from Brouage against La Rochelle, the centre of the French protestants, built up the fortress, which is still conserved all around the village. Ride around the fortress and further to the castle La Gataudiere. The horses leave for the island Oleron while the riders have the possibility to visit the castle of 18th century before the transfer to the island. There is a bridge connecting the island with the continent.
